where it all began
A self-taught maker,
I’m a self-taught knitter and crocheter, and most of the things I love come from teaching myself. I love to draw, I tattoo (myself mostly, I handpoke). I also love speedcubing, though I forgot a lot I learned. And I’m completely, hopelessly in love with plants: especially my growing army of monsteras, who watch me work from every windowsill.
My hands have always needed something to do.
the first stitches
My grandmother, a ball of yarn, and me
When I was small, my grandmother sat me down with two needles and taught me how to knit. I don’t remember the exact moment, but I remember being pretty confused with how to hold the needles and yarn. I remember getting bored because she only had baby pink and baby blue yarn.
A little later I picked up sewing too, and started making tiny clothes for my dolls. I was passionate about Bjds at the time. By the time I was a kid I’d already opened a little Etsy shop to sell my creations.
2022 ยท a quiet rediscovery
Falling back in love with knitting
Life got loud, then quiet, then loud again. In 2022, I rediscovered knitting through the rabbit hole of stuffed animals.
Then I found @dotpebbles_knits and started making frogs. I instantly fell in love with the pattern. I quickly started making my own clothes patterns for them.
My family and friends saw something I didn’t see yet. They kept saying: “you should sell these.” So... I did.
the hard part
Anxiety, slowness, and finding a softer pace
I’ve dealt with severe anxiety my whole life. It shapes my days in ways most people don’t see. I lived off disability benefits and was unable to have a “normal job”. So, making a bit of pocket money with the frogs was more than welcome.
They sold pretty fast, and I offered making customs. I created an instagram page, and here I am, almost 4 years later.
That small thing became Heknitt.
now
The dream, out loud
Right now, I have the job of my dream. I live off the froggies. I couldn’t have asked for a better job, and I could never have dreamed of making stuffed animals for a living.
To everyone who has supported my little shop, liked a post, shared my work, or simply read this far: thank you. Truly. You’re the reason any of this exists.
